I just saw my first Chaplin movie not too long ago. It was called "The Gold Rush" I believe. I was amazed at how interesting he and his movie was. I can now see why he is well renowned. It seemed as if he mixed real concepts with make-believe ones. Such as the eating of the shoe. Supposedly he did this a lot in his movies. I believe this was an interesting way of making something artsy(his point to this was to not take things at face value). When I see artsy fartsy movies, it's like they use artsy angles and the look of things to look artsy. Sure, they have points to they're conveying on the screen in such a way, but I think Chaplin's stuff is so much more blatant and original...as in innovative. Then again maybe I can't judge, I probably have only seen a couple of artsy movies. Anyone else seen Chaplin's stuff? Agree? Disagree?
